It is December, snow is falling, and we have entered the heart of winter. Welcome back to the Bashford Courts blog. December is one of the best months here in Prescott. We personally enjoy the chill and snow, it makes for such beautiful scenery in our lovely town. But lovely hikes and splendid scenery isn’t all there is here! If you are planning to head up north for a bit of a real winter wonderland, check out these events this December!
A holiday tradition here in Prescott is the Yavapai College’s combined choirs putting on Handel’s ‘Messiah.’ In addition to the combined choir, there will be a symphony orchestra and special guest soloists as well. It’s an inspiring way to start the holiday season and tickets only cost $25. Be a part of this Prescott tradition!
December is the month for live performances of all kinds of course. That continues on the 6th from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Prescott Center for the Arts Mainstage when Jean Shepherd’s ‘A Christmas Story’ gets adapted by Philip Grecian. The classic tale of Ralphie, his father’ important and distinguished award, and more get brought to life on the stage. Replace your yearly viewing on the TV with this new experience. Grecian is feeling pretty confident in the production with shows running all month!
Looking to fill up your December with holiday classics? Head out to the Ruth Street Theater at 1050 Ruth St. for two performances of the Nutcracker Ballet. This performance is put on by the YMCA Youth dance group. Head over to the Prescott YMCA website for tickets ranging from $5-$10 ahead of time and $10 to $15 at the door.
A little bit less of a performance as compared to the rest of the calendar so far, but a holiday tradition none the less! From 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM, and 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM, the Prescott Public Library is hosting a graham cracker house decorating extravaganza! Seating is limited so the library request you register each member of your group who will be building a house. You can register online, the Youth Desk, or call 928 – 777 – 1537.
After the Christmas festivities have wrapped up, it’s back to the art sensibilities Prescott is known for. On Friday the 28th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, head out to the 4th Friday Art Walk. The focus of this walk is the reception for Barb Wills and Friends of the ‘Adorn Yourself 2018’ wearable art program as well as photographers from the ‘1st 2019 Photography’ exhibit that will be running through January 22nd.
Knock out 2018 and ring in 2019 with this family-friendly event! There are two boot drops, one at 10:00 PM and another at midnight. No tickets needed, no passes neither! Simply show up to the Historic Whiskey Row in downtown Prescott. There, the 6-foot illuminated boot will be dropped from the Palace’s flagpole! Be ready for wonderful fireworks at 10 PM and midnight. Live music, food, giveaways, and more! Boot 2018 out the door and let’s get into 2019 right quick! Head to the Bootdrop site for more information!
